Racing Insurance Cover
Competing in a race event, weekend or championship requires more than entry fees, fuel and fresh tyres. If you’re racing a full season in the UK or anywhere in the world, you’ll need structured race ready insurance that reflects the realities of competitive motorsport.
Not generic cover. Proper motorsport cover. Because taking part at an event on a race circuit isn’t a one-off thrill. It could be a season, multiple events, or test days. You have to consider travel, medical, storage, liability, and serious investments.
Which raises the sensible question:
What Insurance Do You Need for Racing?
Insurance for Teams and Competitors
Depending on your setup, you may need:
- On-event vehicle accident damage cover
- Testing accident damage cover
- Cover for loss or damage to equipment, race cars & tools
- Storage & transit insurance for race car and trailer
- Personal Accident cover (driver)
- Motor Insurance (teams)
- Public Liability (teams)
- Employers Liability (teams)
- Travel cover (teams)
If you’re operating as a race team, even at grassroots level, exposure increases significantly.
Is Insurance Provided by the Organiser Enough?
Usually, it’s third-party liability only (for permitted events), that protects injury to others. It does not protect:
- Your own race car when on track
- Loss and damage to your equipment and assets
- Liability for your employees and guests
- Injury to others caused by you or your staff
- Your loss of income when recovering from injury
- Medical expenses when outside of the UK
Racing is risky – that’s the point. Funding the consequences yourself isn’t.
What About Testing Days?
Championship drivers test. Often. Your race weekend cover may not automatically include private circuit hire, official test sessions or overseas rounds. We structure policies around the way real teams operate, not brochure scenarios.
Single Event vs Season Cover
If you’re doing one round, you require a Single Event Policy. A full championship requires a Structured Season Policy.
Getting that wrong can leave gaps. And gaps in motorsport tend to be expensive!
